Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of vehicles, facilities, and equipment to identify and address potential hazards or safety issues.
  • Investigate and report safety incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement effective solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop and deliver safety-related training programs for employees, including driver training, emergency response procedures, and risk assessment.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging safety trends, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns from employees and regulatory agencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, transportation management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards.
  • Strong understanding of school bus operations and the unique safety considerations associated with transporting students.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively guide and inspire the team towards a culture of safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and educate employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify and address safety hazards and risks.
  • Strong crisis management skills and ability to coordinate appropriate responses.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience working closely with insurance agents in organizing and maintaining claims.
  • Ability to work independently to maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and ability to develop strategies to mitigate potential risks.
  • Familiarity with safety-related technologies, telematics systems, and driver monitoring tools.
  • Mindset of continuous improvement and passion for safety.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Able to schedule and set priorities for work to be accomplished.
  • Working knowledge of phones, computers, and electronic data processing to include Google Drive and Internet experience.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, and customer service skills are essential.
