Job Summary

Walter L. Shepeard Comm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Phlebotomy Team Lead to join our Donor Services team. The ideal candidate will lead mobile blood collection activities, ensuring donor safety, compliance with FDA standards, and exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and Schedule Mobile Drives: Oversee day-to-day activities on mobile drives, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
  • Ensure Donor Safety and Compliance: Verify that all donors are properly screened and blood components are drawn according to FDA and company SOPs.
  • Collaborate with Drive Coordinators: Work closely with drive coordinators to ensure seamless operations and achieve monthly production goals.
  • Provide High-Level Customer Service: Address external complaints and provide exceptional service to donors and stakeholders.
  • Maintain Updated SOPs and References: Ensure that all relevant documents, including SOPs and map books, are up-to-date and easily accessible.
  • Assist with Staff Training and In-Service Programs: Support the development and implementation of training programs for phlebotomy staff.
  • Perform Collection Procedures: Conduct whole blood and apheresis collections, as well as administer post-venipuncture care to donors.
  • Address Disciplinary Issues: Handle disciplinary issues and notify management as needed.
  • Monitor and Participate in QC/Quality Assurance Activities: Participate in quality control and assurance activities to ensure compliance with FDA standards.
  • Prepare Units, Tubes, and Records for Transport: Ensure that all necessary materials are prepared and ready for transport.
  • Perform Computer Data Entry and Retrieval: Enter and retrieve data from computer systems as needed.
  • Maintain Equipment and Cleanliness of Work Areas: Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and that work areas are clean and organized.
  • Participate in Meetings, Seminars, and In-Service Trainings: Attend meetings, seminars, and in-service trainings to stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Required.
  • 3-5 Years of Related Work Experience: Preferred.
  • At Least 2 Years of Leadership/Training Experience: Preferred.
  • Basic Computer Skills: Required.
  • CPR Certification and Completion of a Certified Phlebotomy Program: Required.

  • Strong Leadership, Communication, and Organizational Skills: Essential for success in this role.
  • Ability to Work Effectively with a Team: Collaborate with drive coordinators and other staff members to achieve goals.
  • Proficiency in Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Make informed decisions and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of General Safety and Quality Procedures: Understand and implement safety and quality procedures to ensure compliance with FDA standards.
  • Ability to Maintain Confidentiality and Demonstrate Integrity: Handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical Ability to Lift 35 Pounds and Stand, Sit, and Walk for Long Periods: Meet the physical demands of this role.
Working Conditions
  • Community Blood Center with Adequate Light and Climate Control: Work in a well-maintained facility with comfortable working conditions.
  • Irregular Hours, Often Exceeding 10 Hours per Day and on Weekends: Be prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Potential Exposure to Infectious Diseases from Blood and Blood Products: Take necessary precautions to ensure safety and prevent exposure to infectious diseases.
