Position Overview:

The Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) department is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to provide comprehensive support in animal care and anesthesia management. This role is essential in ensuring the well-being of various animal species used in research and educational settings.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the Veterinary Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Administering anesthesia to a diverse range of patients, including small companion animals, equine, farm animals, birds, and exotic species.
  • Collaborating with faculty, students, and staff to stay informed about research protocols and objectives.
  • Delivering anesthetic support throughout the surgical process, from initial sedation to post-operative recovery.
  • Executing various technical procedures such as intravenous catheter placement, venipuncture, drug administration, and emergency interventions.
  • Maintaining accurate records of patient care and anesthetic procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Providing high-quality patient care through a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
  • Supervising and mentoring veterinary students and interns in best practices for patient care and technical skills.
  • Ensuring a clean and safe working environment in accordance with infectious disease protocols.
Qualifications:

Applicants should possess the following qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited veterinary technician training program or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in administering anesthesia and handling various animal species.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Capability to lift up to 60 pounds and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Desire to educate and support veterinary students in their clinical training.
Preferred Credentials:

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification is preferred.

Licensure Requirements:

A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to obtain necessary certifications within specified timeframes.
