The role of Veterinary Technician for Equine and Livestock Care is crucial in providing medical assistance and support to a diverse range of animal patients. Key Responsibilities:The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Administering treatment and care for all patients at the Equine and Livestock Veterinary Center.
- Overseeing all hourly treatments, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring proper husbandry practices. Responsible for the triage and management of emergency cases.
- Assisting veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures, including animal handling and restraint.
- Facilitating the education of veterinary students, interns, and residents in all relevant tasks.
- Managing inventory and equipment maintenance, including scheduling repairs as necessary.
- Participating in on-call duties, weekend shifts, and holiday coverage as required.
- Ensuring adherence to all protocols regarding infectious diseases.
- Assisting with inventory management, billing accuracy, supply procurement, and maintaining effective communication with all hospital departments.
- Performing other related tasks as assigned.
Applicants should have completed an accredited training program in veterinary technology or possess a comparable combination of education and experience. Some positions may necessitate additional certifications or licenses.
Essential Skills:- Extensive experience in handling large animals.
- Ability to work in environments with sick animals and potentially hazardous materials.
- Strong communication skills and professionalism in challenging situations.
- Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
- Physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Willingness to work beyond scheduled hours when necessary.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
- Proficiency in using computers and electronic systems.
- Capacity to maintain physical activity for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Registered Veterinary Technician certification in the relevant state.
- Experience as an equine technician in a clinical or referral setting.
- Background in a veterinary teaching facility.
- A valid driver's license is required and must be obtained within a specified timeframe upon hiring.
