We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Associate to join our team at Spaulding Hospital-Boston & Cambridge (SRN, SRH, SHC). As a key member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of a registered/licensed nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate will assist in clinical support functions to promote a safe and compassionate patient care environment. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out patient care plans as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Provide patient physical care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linen, per established guidelines.
- Perform patient monitoring activities, such as vital signs and blood glucose, per established guidelines.
- Prepare patients for meals and assist with meeting their needs.
- Perform patient rounds regularly and answer call lights promptly to meet patients' needs.
- Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
- Organize patient room clutter to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Obtain and label specimens consistent with established procedures.
- Provide mentoring and teaching to new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
- Complete additional department, organization, or network activities per established objectives.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent required, unless you hold a nursing assistant certification.
- Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.
- Preferred qualifications include enrollment in a nursing, pre-med, or physician assistant undergraduate program, with a minimum of one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hire, or possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, mental health technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hire.
You will need to demonstrate:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
- Basic skills in math and computer science.
- The ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
- Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
- Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with varying levels of noise, humidity, and temperature. You will be required to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds, and to stand, walk, sit, and use your hands and arms for extended periods.
