This position plays a critical role in achieving sales growth and profitability for Sysco's Specialty Meat Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective customers, promoting and selling Sysco's products and services, and driving sales and account penetration in their assigned territory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a sales strategy to achieve sales and profitability goals in the assigned territory.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and preferences to provide tailored solutions.
  • Make in-person visits and presentations to existing and prospective customers to promote Sysco's products and services.
  • Take customer orders with a focus on maximizing sales and gross profit/stop.
  • Participate in the review and oversight of customer orders, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment.
  • Respond promptly to customer problems and needs, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Monitor and analyze sales and margin reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date on product applications, technical services, market conditions, and competitive activities to provide informed solutions to customers.
  • Participate in Sysco's training and customer events, as well as sales meetings with Sysco Sales leaders.
  • Develop a relationship with accounts payable contacts at every account, coordinating communication between them and Sysco's account receivable manager/representative.
  • Implement effective credit and cash management practices to control days sales outstanding (DSOs) and minimize costly credits and returns.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required; 4-year degree in culinary arts, business, marketing, agriculture/animal science, or related studies preferred.
  • 2-year prior food service and/or sales background strongly preferred.

Professional Skills:

  • Deep expertise in the meat and seafood category or restaurant/culinary background with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new knowledge.
  • Consultative sales ability.
  • Self-motivation and accountability for time management without constant supervisor direction.
  • Strong customer relations skills and a sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Outlook.

Decision-Making Authority:

  • Approach to building relationships with customers/stakeholders.
  • Time and customer management.
  • Customer pricing.
  • Self-motivation.

Organizational Reporting:

  • Reports to Sales VP, Director, or Manager.
