Senior Director for Alumni Relations

Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director for Alumni Relations to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with alumni, fostering a sense of community and connection among graduates, and promoting the university's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for alumni engagement, including the creation of programs and initiatives that promote lifelong learning, networking, and community service.
  • Build and maintain relationships with alumni, including identifying and engaging with key stakeholders, and developing and implementing strategies to increase alumni participation and giving.
  • Collaborate with university departments and units to develop and implement alumni engagement initiatives that align with the university's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Develop and manage budgets for alumni engagement programs and initiatives, and ensure effective use of resources.
  • Supervise and mentor staff members responsible for alumni engagement, and provide guidance and support to ensure the successful implementation of programs and initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in advancement or related field, with a minimum of 5 years in alumni relations or a related field.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful alumni engagement strategies, and building and maintaining relationships with alumni.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and partnership.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably at a research institution.
  • Knowledge of alumni engagement best practices and trends, and ability to stay current with industry developments.
  • Experience with budget management and financial planning, and ability to develop and manage budgets for alumni engagement programs and initiatives.
