Position Summary

The Memorial Service Coordinator is responsible for various tasks throughout the funeral and memorialization process, assisting Funeral Directors and staff to ensure that services are conducted seamlessly and that the expectations of client families and their guests are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and guide client families and their guests to the appropriate chapel for services.
  • Direct visitors to the guest book and provide memorialization materials as required.
  • Address inquiries and assist with the needs of client families, their guests, and other visitors during visitation and memorial events.
  • Receive and arrange flowers in chapels.
  • Ensure refreshments are available for client families and their guests.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of public areas such as lobbies, chapels, restrooms, and reception areas before and after scheduled services.
  • Oversee parking arrangements for family and ceremonial vehicles during formal processions.
  • Assist in directing and transporting families and attendees to service locations outside of the funeral home.
  • Actively represent the business within the community to foster trust and loyalty.
  • Uphold a professional, honest, and ethical demeanor at all times.
  • Maintain a polished personal appearance while performing duties or representing the organization.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • A four-year degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in funeral arranging is preferred.

  • Willingness to engage in community involvement to enhance market share.
  • Ability to empathize with client families and demonstrate patience in emotionally sensitive situations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Most duties are performed in an indoor office setting, with some tasks conducted outdoors.
  • Outdoor responsibilities may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and natural elements.
  • Equipment utilized includes computers, fax machines, copiers, multi-line phone systems, and more.
  • Regular physical activities include climbing, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals and/or bloodborne pathogens, with a low risk level.
  • Overtime may be required on occasion.

Travel Requirements

  • This position may involve up to 10% travel, primarily local and during business hours.
