OVERVIEW OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians to deliver exceptional care for pets. This position emphasizes advocacy for animal welfare, client education on pet health, and maintaining a safe and efficient hospital environment.

KEY DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Embody and promote the core values of Mars, Inc. within the team.
  • Act as an additional resource for veterinarians and technicians to enhance the quality of pet care and optimize their productivity. Facilitate communication among the veterinary team and staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Deliver professional and outstanding service consistently. This includes performing tasks that do not require direct veterinarian or technician involvement, preparing for procedures, ensuring comfort for clients and pets, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical animals as permitted by state regulations.
  • Inform clients about wellness plans, preventive care, and other relevant pet health topics.
  • Gather pertinent information and history from clients while maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Ensure the safety of pets, clients, and staff by employing safe handling techniques, adhering to protocols, and keeping treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs organized and sterile.
  • Assist in surgical procedures as necessary.
  • Utilize technical skills effectively, in accordance with state regulations and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistants.
  • Provide mentorship to other support staff within the facility.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years old for specific duties.
  • One year of related experience preferred, particularly in customer service.
