Practical Nursing Specialist

The Practical Nursing Specialist is responsible for executing designated nursing tasks in the treatment of patients who are ill, injured, or require assistance, under the supervision of a physician.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares patients for consultations; manages medical supplies, examination rooms, and medications; conducts and monitors tests and their outcomes; supports healthcare providers and nursing staff; maintains accurate patient records and documentation; performs administrative duties as needed, ensuring efficient patient flow within clinical settings.
- Administers prescribed treatments as directed by healthcare providers. Handles patient medication refill requests and inquiries promptly.
- Conducts various medical tests including Drug Screens, Audiograms, Pulmonary Function Tests, and other office-based diagnostics such as urinalysis and strep tests, as instructed by providers. Completes necessary documentation and requisitions in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensures the cleanliness, packaging, and sterilization of medical instruments and supplies in compliance with OSHA regulations. Maintains cleanliness of examination rooms and medical equipment.
- Accurately labels and submits insurance information for referrals to laboratories, imaging centers, or specialists. Adheres to insurance protocols and accurately records all services and supplies on billing documents. Works efficiently and accurately, adjusting to patient volume, and utilizes downtime productively.
- Assists in patient education and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge and certifications relevant to the nursing profession.
Education Requirements
- Technical Diploma/Certificate in Practical Nursing is mandatory.
- Must possess a Licensed Practical Nurse license in Florida or be eligible for a compact state license upon hire.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Familiarity with patient care documentation and medical histories.
- Understanding of clinical and surgical procedures and their documentation.
- Knowledge of patient assessment and triage methods.
- Proficiency in managing supplies, equipment, and inventory control.
- Awareness of medication administration procedures and patient care standards.
- Ability to read and comprehend the English language effectively.
