Job Overview

The Operating Room Specialist III is responsible for executing technical tasks and providing essential support to surgeons, anesthesia teams, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals within the surgical environment. This role operates under the guidance of a registered nurse to ensure safe and effective patient care during surgical procedures. The specialist effectively engages with patients and collaborates with healthcare team members while upholding the standards of the surgical department. This position involves participation in surgical interventions across all age demographics, from pediatric to geriatric patients, and may include assisting with circulating duties under the direct supervision of a qualified registered nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibits extensive knowledge of surgical techniques and instruments.
  • Maintains up-to-date certifications and knowledge.
  • Oversees inventory and supplies for the surgical department.
  • Executes all responsibilities as outlined in the service scope to ensure individualized patient care.
  • Assumes accountability for daily personnel assignments and monitors patient care and unit activities in line with established standards.
  • Evaluates and identifies patient and family needs to deliver high-quality care to assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates the necessary skills and judgment to implement medical care plans and nursing interventions as required.
  • Continuously assesses identified issues, care provided, and patient responses to adapt to patient and family needs, ensuring quality care delivery.
  • Maintains accurate and current documentation of nursing care to facilitate information integration for the healthcare team, ensuring quality service.
  • Guides both licensed and non-licensed personnel in patient care as assigned.
  • Upholds current knowledge and certification requirements.
  • Engages in Professional Governance through participation in the Unit Based Council and other nursing councils.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • Technical Diploma/Certificate in Practical Nursing or Surgical Technology Required, or a Certificate of Completion from a military training program or hospital on-the-job training.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse if applicable, with eligibility in the State of Florida or a compact state upon hire.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
  • Must be available to return to the facility within 30 minutes of a callback.
  • Possesses strong character and unwavering integrity with a focus on surgical precision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through is crucial.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain strength to hold instruments or retractors as needed.
  • Demonstrates quick movement capabilities without compromising quality and accuracy.
  • Possesses a good memory and the ability to anticipate the needs of surgeons and patients proactively.
  • Knowledgeable in sterilization and disinfection processes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in critical care nursing skills and knowledge.
  • Must be able to return to the facility within 30 minutes of a callback.
