Job Title: Lifeguard

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lifeguard to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies in and around the pool.

Responsibilities:
  1. Monitor activities of pool patrons and ensure a safe aquatic environment
  2. Understand and enforce all pool and facility policies and procedures
  3. Observe the conduct of patrons and communicate openly with patrons/staff in a friendly manner
  4. Recognize emergencies and respond effectively
  5. Inspect the facility on a daily basis and report any unsafe conditions or equipment
  6. Inspect pool deck throughout the day for cleanliness
  7. Arrive on time to all shifts; find a sub to work shift if a planned absence is necessary
  8. Have a flexible work schedule and provide up to date and accurate availability as requested
  9. Work at both the Cary Street Gym & MCV Larrick Center
  10. Test pool and spa water chemistry
  11. Count pool users and class participants
  12. Complete any Risk Management reports immediately
  13. Complete all cleaning duties as assigned
  14. Attend monthly in-service training and other meetings as required
  15. Work as a team with other lifeguards, aquatics staff and facilities staff
  16. Additional duties as assigned by the Aquatics & Safety Coordinator or Program Assistants

Requirements:
  1. Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and utilize proper technique
  2. Excellent customer service and communication skills
  3. Ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations
  4. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks on time
  5. Maturity & professionalism

Certifications:
  1. American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer & First Aid
  2. American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
