Position Overview

We are seeking a committed physician-scientist with a robust foundation in human genetics to become a vital member of our interdisciplinary Cardiovascular, Metabolic, and Skeletal Genetics team at BioSpace, Inc.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will spearhead our translational genetics initiatives. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Conducting comprehensive multimodal phenotyping within our extensive cohort collections.
  • Designing and executing large-scale genetic and epidemiological studies.
  • Analyzing data to pinpoint potential therapeutic targets for a diverse range of human conditions.
  • Facilitating the translation of genetic findings into actionable insights.

You will collaborate closely with a variety of professionals at BioSpace, including scientists and clinicians from our pre-clinical and clinical development teams.

Daily Activities

A typical day may involve:

  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, bioinformaticians, and statistical geneticists to design, implement, and interpret extensive human genetics studies.
  • Mining and analyzing genetic association data to identify causal genes and variants, prioritizing potential drug targets.
  • Summarizing and presenting findings in meetings, and contributing to the preparation of scientific reports and publications.
  • Working alongside clinical development teams to leverage genetic insights in clinical research design and interpretation.
  • Utilizing your clinical expertise to define precise phenotypes for genetic discovery and validation.
  • Representing the team in cross-functional projects within BioSpace.
  • Engaging with industry and academic partners on strategic collaborations.
  • Preparing detailed reports, figures, and summaries; drafting sections of scientific manuscripts and internal documentation.
Candidate Profile

This role may be a fit for you if you possess:

  • A strong passion for leveraging your medical and scientific knowledge to explore the genetic underpinnings of cardiometabolic diseases and translating this understanding into therapeutic advancements.
  • Experience in leading human genetics studies that yield clinically relevant outcomes in a collaborative environment.
  • Expertise in complex human genetics research, including knowledge of study designs and analyses such as GWAS, exome, or genome sequencing.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey the results of genetic studies to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must hold an MD or MD/Ph.D. with a solid background in human genetics or genetic epidemiology, along with training and experience in translational human genetics and strong quantitative skills.

Familiarity with statistical genetics applications, including polygenic scores and GWAS, as well as experience with programming languages and statistical software (e.g., R, Python) is preferred. Experience integrating genetic data with other omics technologies (e.g., metabolomics, proteomics) is also advantageous.
