Position Overview

The Virtual Chief Information Security Officer II (vCISO II) within the Cyber Strategy and Defense (CSD) division serves as a high-level advisor for clients utilizing Arete's Managed Services. This role involves direct engagement with clients to provide expert security consultation for various CSD initiatives, while also overseeing and directing onsite activities as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice to senior leadership regarding risk assessments and the overall security posture.
  • Assist client teams in establishing and managing comprehensive information security and risk management frameworks.
  • Guide clients in formulating long-term security and compliance objectives, developing actionable strategies, and delivering updates to executive teams and boards as required.
  • Communicate the significance of information security across all organizational levels.
  • Integrate cybersecurity requirements into the continuity planning processes for systems and organizations.
  • Facilitate the alignment of enterprise information security architecture with the broader organizational security strategy.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses and risk assessments as outlined in client contracts.
  • Advise senior management on the economic implications of security programs, policies, and systems.
  • Identify alternative security strategies that meet organizational objectives while supporting business goals.
  • Drive the client's information security and privacy strategy, encompassing both on-premises and cloud solutions.
  • Act as a credible representative of the client's security and privacy initiatives, engaging with customers and stakeholders.
  • Enhance awareness of security issues among management and ensure that sound security principles are integrated into the organization's vision.
  • Ensure project adherence to scope, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
  • Manage project communications and negotiations effectively.
  • Address client feedback as directed by senior leadership.
  • Foster an environment open to innovative ideas and ensure the implementation of best practices.
  • Align departmental objectives with the overall organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with business processes to enhance operational efficiency and identify necessary infrastructure improvements.
  • Document lessons learned from past projects and ensure that training materials are regularly updated.
  • Oversee project assignments and transition processes.
  • Monitor and report on client satisfaction metrics among stakeholders.
  • Support the cultivation of strategic partnerships to maintain beneficial relationships with key clients.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of cybersecurity experience, or a Master's degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or a J.D. with 6 years of related experience.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience, ideally at a senior level, including prior experience as a Chief Information Security Officer.
  • Expertise in the current threat landscape and advanced protection strategies.
  • Demonstrated success in developing effective security, risk, and compliance programs.
  • Current knowledge of evolving strategies in response to the dynamic security environment.
  • In-depth understanding of enterprise security controls and frameworks, particularly CIS Critical Security Controls and NIST standards.
  • Preferred certifications include Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC); Information Systems Security Management Professional (ISSMP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) are also preferred.

Work Environment

Physical Requirements

  • Minimal physical exertion is required.
  • Travel may be necessary.
  • Light work may involve exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

Compensation

The expected annual base salary range is $135,200 – $140,000, with eligibility for bonuses. Actual salary will be determined based on various factors including experience, skills, qualifications, and job location.
