Position Overview

The Virtual Chief Information Security Officer II (vCISO II) for Cyber Strategy and Defense serves as a key executive consultant for Arete Advisors' Managed Services clientele. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership regarding risk management and security posture.
  • Assist client teams in establishing and managing a comprehensive information security and risk management framework.
  • Support clients in formulating long-term security and compliance objectives, articulating strategies, defining performance metrics, and delivering updates to executive leadership as required.
  • Communicate the significance of information security across all organizational levels and stakeholders.
  • Advise on cybersecurity requirements for integration into organizational continuity planning.
  • Facilitate the alignment of enterprise information security architecture with the overall security strategy of the organization.
  • Conduct cost-benefit and risk analyses as per contractual agreements with clients.
  • Advise senior management on the financial implications of information security programs and policies.
  • Identify alternative security strategies to meet organizational security goals while supporting business objectives.
  • Drive the development of the client's information security and privacy strategy, encompassing both on-premises and cloud solutions.
  • Act as a credible representative of the client's security and privacy initiatives, engaging with customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Enhance awareness of security issues among management and ensure that sound security principles are integrated into the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Ensure that projects remain within defined scope, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
  • Manage project communications, negotiations, and resolutions.
  • Address client feedback as directed by senior leadership.
  • Encourage innovative ideas and ensure the implementation of best practices.
  • Communicate departmental objectives and ensure alignment with overall organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with business processes to promote operational efficiency and identify infrastructure needs.
  • Document lessons learned from prior projects and regularly update playbooks and training materials.
  • Oversee project assignments and handover processes.
  • Ensure client satisfaction among both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on metrics related to client satisfaction.
  • Support the establishment of strategic partnerships to foster long-term, profitable relationships with key clients.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Extensive experience in driving information security initiatives for both cloud-based and on-premises environments.
  • Exceptional public speaking abilities to effectively represent clients and convey security messages to stakeholders, executives, and boards.
  • Proven capability to identify, recruit, develop, and retain security and compliance professionals as needed.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years of cybersecurity experience, or a Master's Degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or a J.D. with 6 years of related experience.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience, ideally at a senior level, including prior experience as a Chief Information Security Officer.
  • Expertise in the threat landscape and advanced protection strategies and products.
  • Demonstrated success in building effective security, risk, and compliance programs.
  • Current knowledge of evolving strategies in response to the changing security landscape.
  • Expertise in enterprise security controls and frameworks, particularly CIS Critical Security Controls and NIST-based frameworks.
  • Preferred certifications include Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), with additional preferences for Information Systems Security Management Professional (ISSMP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).

Compensation

The expected annual base salary range for this position is $135,200 – $140,000, with eligibility for bonuses. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
