Motor Vehicle Operator II

The Motor Vehicle Operator II is responsible for the operation and upkeep of vehicles on site, facilitating the transportation of goods and individuals over both short and extended distances.

This role includes the timely and sanitary delivery of food carts to designated areas. In instances of staffing shortages, this position may also take on responsibilities typical of a food service worker.

While this role does not entail supervisory or financial duties, it does require accountability for assigned vehicles, including the preparation and maintenance of relevant documentation regarding vehicle operations and ensuring that vehicles receive scheduled maintenance.

The individual in this position operates under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance and adherence to the agency's leave policy is essential, along with the performance of additional duties as assigned.


Operates various motor vehicles, including vans and trucks, to transport passengers, goods, and food carts. The physical demands of this role include prolonged standing, as well as the lifting, carrying, and pushing of items weighing over 40 lbs. Capability to drive a state vehicle with an attached delivery trailer is required.

Maintains and prepares logs and records related to vehicle operations. Must be able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions. Basic mathematical skills are necessary.

Conducts routine vehicle maintenance, performs minor repairs, and refuels vehicles.

Ensures that daily operator maintenance is completed before, during, and after each trip, as evidenced by the absence of maintenance issues reported by the motor pool.

Ensures compliance with cargo/food cart capacity limits, enforces the use of safety restraints for drivers and passengers, and manages cargo/food cart distribution to maintain balanced axle loading.


Safeguards cargo/food carts and adheres to state and local traffic regulations, as demonstrated by a clean citation record.

Aids in the safe loading and unloading of passengers and cargo/food carts.

Operates vehicle power lift gates, manual hydraulic forklifts, and dollies.

Assists with warehouse duties and food service tasks. Familiarity with general cooking, food handling, and serving techniques is beneficial. Ability to utilize cleaning chemicals and commercial detergents for dishwashing and floor maintenance related to food services and housekeeping operations.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Other responsibilities may include active participation in disaster response and recovery efforts or supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) initiatives. Such involvement may necessitate adjustments to shift patterns or work locations.



Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read a clock and adhere to a schedule.

Knowledge of traffic safety regulations is essential.

Proficiency in maneuvering large vehicles in confined spaces is necessary.

Strong communication skills for effective interaction with others in a positive and cooperative manner.

Capability to work in physically demanding environments.

Ability to withstand varying weather conditions.
