Washington DC USA, United States Public Citizen Full time
Job Title: Climate Accountability Campaign Director

Public Citizen is a national, non-partisan, public interest group with more than 500,000 members and supporters. We hold the government and corporations accountable with campaigns and advocacy before Congress, administrative agencies, and the courts, on issues including money in politics, open government, financial regulation, energy and the climate crisis, fair trade, consumer protection, access to justice, tax policy, workplace safety, drug and medical device safety, healthcare, and more.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Climate Accountability Campaign Director to join our Climate Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing campaign strategy and tactics to advance our advocacy for criminal accountability for the fossil fuel industry. This is a new and exciting policy area, and we are making a big impact.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute campaign strategy and tactics in consultation with the Climate Program director, campaigns team, and other staff and partners.
  • Identify opportunities where direct action organizing, grassroots advocacy, and traditional as well as out-of-the-box earned media tactics can make a difference.
  • Work with partners to capitalize on these opportunities.
  • Participate actively in coalitions and, where appropriate, organize and lead them.
  • Support the organizing, advocacy, and leadership development of climate survivors.
  • Coordinate digital actions including email actions, paid advertising, and social media tactics.
Requirements
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in campaigns, organizing, or advocacy.
  • Strong strategic thinking and oral and written communication abilities.
  • Outstanding people skills—you know how to build relationships and get volunteers and partners not just in the door but invested in this work for the long-term.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, persistence, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, balance multiple priorities, and react to new developments under pressure.
  • Creative and collaborative spirit.
Benefits

Public Citizen offers a competitive salary and benefit package, including great medical and dental coverage, three weeks paid vacation, 401K plan, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, sabbatical after 10 years of employment, and student loan reimbursement program.

To apply, submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample combined in a single PDF to climateaction@citizen.org.
