This role is responsible for leading and managing employees in Middle Office functions, including Billing, Client Reporting, Merchant Banking, and Alternative Investments. Key responsibilities include determining staffing needs, administering human resources policies, and establishing cross-functional relationships to enhance collaboration and resolve issues. In partnership with the Managing Director of PWM Operations & Risk Management, you will develop and implement strategic plans for the Middle Office function and oversee their execution. You will identify, scope, plan, and execute strategic projects, applying deep industry and systems expertise to pinpoint opportunities for improvement, enhance system functionality, and refine work processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage employees in Middle Office operations across Billing, Client Reporting, Merchant Banking, and Alternative Investments.
  • Oversee the strategic expansion of PWM's alternative investment strategies function.
  • Ensure accurate reflection of transactions in official records through the alternative investments oversight process.
  • Manage the operations due diligence process for potential new alternative investments and actively participate in related meetings.
  • Oversee due diligence efforts for implementing investment processes related to alternative investments, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, credit, and other alternatives.
  • Determine staffing needs and administer human resources policies, including hiring, compensation, performance reviews, and training.
  • Establish and maintain cross-functional relationships to promote collaboration and resolve issues effectively.
  • Assist in developing strategic short-term and long-term plans for the Middle Office function and oversee their implementation.
  • Apply deep industry and systems expertise to identify opportunities for improvement and enhance system functionality.
  • Ensure compliance of Middle Office operations by implementing policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure staff is adequately trained on relevant regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Middle Office workflow activities adhere to established risk controls and comply with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Represent William Blair by interfacing with external entities as needed.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

  • Strong problem resolution skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or a related field required; MBA preferred.
  • Series 7, 9, 10, 63/65 (or 66) required; SIE Exam, Series 7, 9, 10, 63/65 (or 66) must be obtained within 180 days of employment.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial services operations required, or equivalent work experience.
