Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Provider to join our team at Duke Pediatric Nephrology. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide exceptional patient care, collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and contribute to the development of individualized patient plans of care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
  • Obtain patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient's record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings.
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies, diagnostic procedures, and services such as renal transplant recipient evaluations, changes in immunosuppression, renal biopsies, inpatient and outpatient dialysis, and home health care.
  • Carry out daily care and continuity for Pediatric Nephrology patients. Monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress, consulting with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.
  • Coordinate the activities of the multidisciplinary Pediatric Nephrology team to ensure optimal patient care services, including inpatient and outpatient dialysis, renal transplantation, renal biopsies, and chronic renal failure.
Requirements
  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Certification: BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
  • License: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of work experience as a Pediatric or Adult Nephrology Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant and/or RN strongly preferred.
