We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Duke Health. As a key member of our pediatric care team, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional and developmental needs of children and their families during their hospital stay.
Key Responsibilities- Assess the emotional and medical needs of assigned patients and families to determine the support required during their medical experience.
- Develop and implement plans of interaction to promote coping skills, emotional health, and optimal development in the hospital setting.
- Provide play and recreational activities for assigned patients to normalize the environment and facilitate assessments.
- Prepare children and families for diagnostic, treatment, and surgical procedures to optimize their understanding and coping.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
- Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Counseling, Special Education, Recreation Therapy, or a directly related field.
- One year of experience working with hospitalized children or in an educational training program working with children.
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) certification is required.
