KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the guidance of the Service Line Manager, Liaison Supervisor, and Specialty Pharmacists, the Pharmaceutical Patient Advocate is tasked with the dispensation of prescribed medications in alignment with departmental policies and guidelines.

This role includes ensuring quality assurance and accurate tracking of all medications, particularly those related to specialty pharmacy products, prior to dispensing and delivery.

This position is hybrid, allowing work from various locations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Patient Relationship Management: Cultivate and expand the patient account base through recruitment and retention of specialty pharmacy services facilitated by BMC Health System.
  2. Sales and Recruitment: Patient Advocates are assigned specific responsibilities with target goals for patient recruitment into the specialty program at BMC, evaluated consistently through various sales and reporting platforms.
  3. Patient Retention: Encourage clinic patients to utilize BMC pharmacy services to maximize their healthcare experience. Provide comprehensive medication adherence support through various tools and applications.
  4. Internal and External Relationships: Develop trusting relationships with providers, care teams, and patients to ensure the highest level of care.
  5. Operational Responsibilities: Utilize technical skills to navigate patient Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for documentation and prior authorizations, communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, and resolve patient care issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.


CERTIFICATIONS:

Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy. Technicians must hold current active National Certification verified by PTCB or ExCPT.


EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 4-5 years of pharmacy experience is required; Pharmacy Interns must be in their second year.


SKILLS:

Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to provide outstanding customer service. Candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking while maintaining a focus on quality service.

Knowledge of specialty medication therapies, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion are also crucial.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook, is required, along with the ability to quickly learn relevant applications for patient care management.
