POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Pharmacy Operations Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering pharmacy services with a focus on independent task execution and advanced competency in patient medication management. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities including:
- Transcribing and entering prescriptions accurately into the pharmacy system.
- Preparing and distributing medications and pharmaceutical products.
- Conducting inventory management and compliance checks.
- Providing exceptional customer service and maintaining pharmacy documentation.
The Lead Specialist operates under the guidance of the pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, ensuring the provision of high-quality, patient-centered pharmacy services.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Operations
In collaboration with the pharmacist, the Lead Specialist supports the ethical practice of pharmacy daily by delivering effective and safe pharmacy services. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and accurately entering prescription orders from authorized providers.
- Requesting refill authorizations and obtaining new prescription information as permitted.
- Processing prescription orders promptly and preparing medications as directed.
- Facilitating communication with healthcare providers to enhance patient care outcomes.
- Providing courteous assistance to patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
The Lead Specialist is expected to maintain a professional demeanor while addressing customer inquiries and concerns, ensuring a positive experience.
OTHER DUTIES:
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Lead Specialist may:
- Mentor and train junior pharmacy technicians.
- Participate in departmental projects and initiatives.
- Engage in the recruitment process for new pharmacy staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the relevant state board is mandatory. National certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent is also required.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of four years of experience in an outpatient pharmacy setting is essential.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
The role requires strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with various stakeholders, including hospital staff and patients. Proficiency in English is necessary, along with the ability to:
- Follow complex verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Demonstrate strong mathematical skills for precise medication preparation.
- Utilize basic computer skills for data entry and information retrieval.
