Job Summary:


The LCDC Program Counselor is responsible for ensuring client safety and welfare, providing didactic education, supervising client activities, conducting assessments, individual counseling, managing crisis, facilitating groups, transporting clients, documenting client progress, and ensuring excellence and integrity of the program.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with rules, policies, and procedures of the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure resident's safety and welfare by creating and maintaining a humane environment that encourages recovery and preparation for self-sufficiency.
  • Provide Substance Use Disorder treatment to clients; conduct intake, assessment, orientation, treatment planning, case management, intervention, counseling, and teach client education in accordance with DSHS regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all required client contacts in client file and CaseWorthy.
  • Secure files.
  • Work with other staff and agencies to ensure treatment continuum for clients and provide appropriate referrals when specialized care is needed.
  • Supervise resident self-administration of medication in accordance with DSHS and New Hope policies as needed.
  • Administer Urinalysis and forward results to program manager and relevant staff.
  • Implement and supervise events for residents.
  • Transport program residents in Star of Hope vehicles to off-site activities as needed.
  • Complete and submit reports on time.
  • Obtain and maintain all required licenses and certifications.
  • Monitor and perform required Case-Worthy duties.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Manager of Program Services.
  • Maintain a case load of ten (10) clients, report to work on time, and work your assigned schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher in Counseling or related discipline.
  • Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or hold an acceptable state license in a related field.
  • 2+ years' experience as a chemical dependency counselor in an intensive residential program.
  • CPR/First Aid and Crisis Intervention certification.
  • Ability to administer drug testing.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Excellent listening skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with staff, callers, and visitors in a consistently pleasant and professional manner.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with persons of various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Must be motivated, flexible, have good judgment, and act with integrity.
  • Must be team-oriented and able to handle moderate pressure.
  • Be able to work respectfully, professionally, and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries, and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women, and children.


Work Environment:

Office, classroom, and residential supervision.


Exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, drug usage, verbal and physical abuse, and other emergency situations relative to the homeless population is normal.


Professional dress.


Jeans with no holes/fraying may only be worn on Fridays and only as long as a Star of Hope shirt (T-shirt, polo-style, or sweatshirt) is worn.


Work Schedule may be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission.


This position requires the ability to work mostly days with one night and one Saturday per week.


Must be flexible with the schedule.


Local travel may be required.



Relations with Others:

Intensive contact in person and via phone with clients, staff, and volunteers.


Some contact with vendors and donors.


Must be able to effectively establish rapport and respond to questions from clients, donors, volunteers, and visitors in a friendly professional manner and treat everyone with respect and dignity.



Physical Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and operate a motor vehicle.


Clear speech, hearing, and vision required.


Must be able to lift to 20 pounds and move moderate loads.
