Job Overview:

The Director of Information Technology is responsible for overseeing the agency's information technology resources and operations, reporting directly to the Executive Director. This role involves strategizing infrastructure to fulfill business needs, managing daily operations of the IT department, and ensuring effective customer support and network security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs and implements policy guidelines for the agency's information and telecommunication resources in collaboration with executive leadership.
  • Provides guidance and management to IT personnel.
  • Oversees the agency's IT infrastructure, ensuring information security and high-quality customer service.
  • Collaborates with State and Federal entities regarding software integration and user access.
  • Manages significant IT projects from initiation to deployment, leading project teams effectively.
  • Reports on IT investments and benefits to executive management and relevant legislative bodies, preparing necessary strategic plans and policies.
  • Oversees IT security management and disaster recovery initiatives, directing the implementation of security protocols.
  • Establishes standard processes for developing automated systems and enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Ensures comprehensive desktop support for all agency staff and their technology needs.
  • Develops and executes a strategy for the software and hardware lifecycle.
  • Facilitates IT training and development for agency personnel.
  • Ensures effective dissemination of agency information for public engagement and transparency.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in information technology.
  • Experience in staff management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in IT management within a State of Texas agency.
  • Background in agriculture.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficiency in project management tools, knowledge of telecommunications systems, and understanding of legislative requirements for state government. Strong decision-making, project management, and personnel management skills are essential. The ability to analyze complex business processes and effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders is critical.

Other Requirements:

A valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background check. Candidates must demonstrate eligibility to work in the U.S. as per federal regulations.

Important Note: This position may require participation in emergency response duties, including irregular hours and travel.
