Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Chief Information Officer to join our team at the City of Austin. This is a key leadership role that will play a critical part in shaping the future of our IT operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of City-wide IT strategies.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, manage, and direct the day-to-day operations of the assigned Communications & Technology Management (CTM) business technology unit.
  • Oversee the preparation of the departmental business plan and budget.
  • Direct programs to monitor, evaluate, and improve customer service delivery.
  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of City-wide IT policies.
  • Lead continuous improvement of operations, decreases turnaround times, streamlines work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Represent the Chief Information Officer at meetings as requested.
  • Translate strategic direction into tactical projects and programs to produce the desired outcome.
Requirements
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, plus five (5) years of related experience, including three (3) years of experience which were in a management capacity.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: None.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws, ordinances, and policies.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of budgeting methods and systems.
  • Knowledge of various hardware and software applications.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Skill in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting applicable research data.
  • Ability to effectively plan for and use of technical and staff resources.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and objectives.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to evaluate operational performance and implement changes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • The next Deputy Chief Information Officer (Infrastructure and Operations) will be an exceptional leader with a proven track record in network virtualization, enterprise architecture, and customer service.
  • The ideal candidate will have expertise in the development and execution of cloud strategy, end-point modernization, and building relationships with critical stakeholders.
  • The selected candidate will be a mentor, helping staff think strategically, while seeking opportunities for automation.
  • Cybersecurity expertise is also imperative for this role.
  • Prior management experience in a large, robust city or organization is highly preferred.

  • Support Experience - Ability to provide oversight of end-to-end user support for internal and external agencies.
