The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for conducting addiction assessments, developing treatment strategies, managing cases, and providing individual and group therapy for clients facing substance use disorders. Treatment is delivered within a collaborative clinical team environment, under the guidance of a supervising psychiatrist.

SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday / Day and Evening Shifts
LOCATION:
Rochester Mental Health Center
QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's Degree in a Human Services field is required.
Certification as a CASAC-T is mandatory.
Completion of a clinical internship in substance use treatment or a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is essential.
Must demonstrate compassion, empathy, and a thoughtful approach.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are critical.
- Assessment: Conduct initial and ongoing evaluations to establish diagnoses and appropriate care levels.
- Counseling: Facilitate individual, family, and group therapy sessions that engage and motivate clients throughout their recovery journey.
- Planning: Create personalized and culturally competent treatment plans.
- Education & Communication: Collaborate with other healthcare providers and referral sources to enhance understanding of client challenges and strengths; engage in professional development and supervision to continually improve client care.
QHP - Qualified Health Professional - NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sedentary Work
- Occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force. Sedentary work typically involves sitting most of the time, with brief periods of walking or standing.
For specific care programs, refer to departmental requirements for experience and educational expectations, including continuing education obligations.
SALARY RANGE:$55,000 - $70,000.00
