Position Overview

The University of Saint Thomas is seeking an innovative, creative, and entrepreneurial marketing leader to take on the role of Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). The successful candidate will report directly to the President and possess a comprehensive background in all facets of marketing, including brand development, value communication, go-to-market strategies, digital outreach, social media engagement, print media, video production, podcasting, public relations, and market analysis. A practicing Catholic with an understanding of the Catholic educational landscape is essential.

Key Responsibilities

The CMO role requires a seasoned marketing professional with a minimum of 15 years of experience in senior marketing roles, particularly within Catholic education. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of college admissions processes, fundraising initiatives, and financial management, along with a passion for storytelling that highlights educational excellence. As a vital member of the President's cabinet, the CMO will collaborate with senior leadership to enhance the University’s visibility among prospective students, their families, and the broader global Catholic community, including alumni. The CMO will be tasked with generating compelling content across various platforms—print, web, social media, and video—to boost student recruitment, fundraising efforts, and Catholic media outreach. Additionally, the CMO will partner with the President to devise strategies that enhance the University’s standing within the Catholic education sector. A forward-thinking approach, proficiency in new media technologies, and marketing expertise gained outside the educational sector are crucial. A commitment to the Catholic faith and a desire to leverage these attributes to elevate the University of Saint Thomas is expected.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, public relations, and/or communications, including a minimum of five years in planning, writing, editing, and producing marketing materials, press releases, newsletters, and other publications.
  • Experience in managing a marketing and communications team is essential.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing effective social media strategies.
  • A thorough understanding of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly regarding social, moral, and political issues, and the value of Catholic education as outlined in Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and make informed decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal, speaking, presentation, and writing skills are required.
  • A strong personal work ethic, self-motivation, results orientation, and leadership capabilities are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with all University enrollment-related offices to achieve enrollment goals.
  • Work in conjunction with the Office of Institutional Advancement to support annual fundraising initiatives, capital campaigns, and events aimed at increasing enrollment and student retention.
