About the Role

Oscar Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Coding Auditor, SIU to join our team. As a key member of our Special Investigations Unit (SIU), you will play a critical role in identifying and preventing healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) across our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Maintain Coding Expertise: Stay up-to-date on CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding guidelines and other insurance billing submission requirements.
  • Conduct Complex Audits: Perform thorough reviews of medical records and claims to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Document and Communicate Findings: Clearly document audit results and communicate findings to providers in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Develop Reports and Guides: Create reports and reference guides to help team members understand audit results and improve their review processes.
  • Collaborate with Providers: Participate in educational calls with providers to communicate audit results and provide guidance on compliance.
  • Train and Develop Team Members: Help train new team members on coding and auditing best practices.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and identify areas for process improvement.
Requirements
  • 1+ Years of Coding or Auditing Experience: Proven experience in coding or auditing, with a strong understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding guidelines.
  • Bachelor's Degree or 4+ Years of Work Experience: A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Designation: Certification in coding or a related field, such as Certified Professional Medical Auditor or Certified Fraud Examiner.
  • Knowledge of Fraud Statutes and Regulations: Strong understanding of applicable fraud statutes and regulations, as well as federal guidelines on recoupments and anti-FWA activity.
  • Experience in Health Insurance: Experience working in health insurance, specifically with claims processing, billing, reimbursement, or provider contracting.
  • HIPAA and Data Security: Knowledge of HIPAA, data privacy, and data security processes.
