Licensed Mechanical Engineer

Location: Navy Yard, Washington

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering design and production support from project initiation through to construction.
  • Lead and execute projects utilizing both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build methodologies.
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers/designers while reviewing the work of other mechanical engineers for compliance with codes and constructability.
  • Estimate design efforts accurately.
  • Deliver technical expertise during negotiations with architectural-engineering firms and general contractors.
  • Address contractor submissions and respond to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in mechanical and plumbing schematic design, design development, and evaluation of both new and existing commercial, industrial, and healthcare facilities.
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD.
  • Experience in designing and reviewing main air, water side, and steam mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical applications software for sizing ductwork and piping systems.
  • Experience conducting construction site visits.
  • Professional registration as a Licensed Mechanical Engineer is preferred.
  • Secret clearance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery methods.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers/designers.
  • Competence in estimating design efforts and assisting in negotiations with architectural engineering firms and general contractors.
  • Capability to produce field progress reports as necessary.
  • Skill in providing engineering solutions to problems as requested by the government.
  • Ability to review contractor submissions and respond to RFIs.
  • Strong proficiency in AUTOCAD.
  • Working knowledge of design and review processes for main air, water side, and steam mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with SpecsIntact and ability to produce and edit specifications for design projects.
  • Ability to design DDC control systems, including the creation of sequences of operation, point lists, and control diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, and International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
