Job Summary

Astrion is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team in the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division's Naval Architecture and Engineering Department. As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in assisting the team in achieving new or improved understanding in concepts and technology, fundamental and applied research of the marine environment, engineering and naval architecture, hydromechanics, maneuvering and control, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, and training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development Initiatives: Perform geometry, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic calculations, design, and analysis, to include accounting for properties of materials and joining methods, strength, structure, arrangements, weights and stability, trim, interfaces, and interoperability with mechanical equipment, electrical, and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Systems Engineering Initiatives: Provide support and analysis in the areas of fluid systems design, main propulsion systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, control and instrumentation, deck machinery, vibration analysis, and shafting and propulsion train analysis.
  • Test and Evaluation Initiatives: Assist in the assembly and integration of new mechanical and electrical systems into existing test facilities.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in any Engineering Technology discipline or a trade school diploma/trade license and seven (7) years of related experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of related experience in lieu of an Associate's degree in Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum Secret Clearance
