Role Summary

The Licensed Mechanical Engineer will deliver mechanical engineering support across various locations, performing a range of tasks and services within the NAVFAC Washington Area of Responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering design and production support from project initiation through to construction.
  • Lead and execute projects utilizing both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build methodologies.
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers/designers, ensuring compliance with codes and constructability.
  • Estimate design efforts accurately.
  • Engage in technical discussions with architectural engineering firms and general contractors.
  • Address contractor submissions and respond to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • This is a hybrid position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of specialized experience in mechanical and plumbing schematic design, as well as design development for commercial, industrial, and healthcare facilities.
  • Proficiency in the following areas:
    • AUTOCAD
    • Design and review of primary Air and Water Side and steam Mechanical systems.
    • Mechanical applications software for ductwork and piping systems sizing.
    • Conducting construction site visits.
  • Professional registration as a Licensed Mechanical Engineer is preferred.
  • Secret clearance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery methods.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers/designers.
  • Capability to estimate design efforts and assist in negotiations with architectural engineering firms and contractors.
  • Proficient in producing field progress reports as necessary.
  • Ability to provide engineering solutions upon request from the government.
  • Experience in reviewing contractor submissions and responding to RFIs.
  • Strong skills in AUTOCAD.
  • Working knowledge of primary Air and Water Side and steam Mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical applications software for ductwork and piping systems sizing.
  • Understanding of SpecsIntact and ability to produce and edit specifications for design projects.
  • Experience in designing DDC control systems, including operational sequences, point lists, and control diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, and International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
