POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a qualified Patent Agent or Associate with a strong background in the life sciences sector. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, or a related field, along with relevant research experience.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ph.D. in a relevant biological science.
  2. Research expertise in areas such as cell biology, gene therapy, structural biology, or immunology.
  3. Admission to the USPTO or bar required; post-doctoral experience is preferred.
  4. Familiarity with the life sciences industry.
  5. A business-oriented mindset with a keen interest in developing cancer therapies and vaccines.
  6. Experience in IP litigation or a judicial internship is preferred for associates.
  7. Proficiency in patent drafting and searching for agents.
  8. Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  9. Strong scientific writing skills, including the ability to analyze and synthesize scientific literature.
  10. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  11. Proven ability to collaborate effectively within team environments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Evaluate scientific literature and patents across various biology disciplines, providing insightful critiques and opinions.
  2. Conduct thorough searches for relevant scientific articles and patents.
  3. Perform detailed analyses comparing inventions with existing technologies.
  4. Identify and articulate key components of inventions.
  5. Draft comprehensive patent applications, including background information, critical features, and claims.
  6. Prepare responses to patent application rejections, offering detailed analyses and persuasive arguments.
  7. Conduct freedom-to-operate and patentability assessments on prior art.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues on projects, presenting ideas and providing constructive feedback.
  9. Engage with clients during the patent prosecution process, clarifying distinct features of inventions.
