Job Overview

AMS Staffing, Inc. is seeking a skilled Paralegal to support our Intellectual Property Group in handling various patent prosecution tasks. This position is essential for ensuring that all communications and documents from clients, foreign representatives, and government agencies are managed with precision and confidentiality.

Position Details:

Location: Washington DC

Compensation: Competitive salary with overtime and comprehensive benefits

Work Arrangement: Hybrid model requiring in-office presence three days a week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and follow up on international patents, ensuring timely responses to attorneys and clients.
  • Prepare and file U.S. provisional and non-provisional patent applications, keeping internal teams and clients informed.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to stay updated on the regulations and procedures for foreign and PCT patent applications.
  • Generate cost estimates for the filing and maintenance of international patents.
  • Understand and navigate legalization processes at various governmental levels.
  • Draft and send applications to foreign agents or agencies, ensuring compliance with National Phase entry.
  • Manage client communications, including responding to inquiries about foreign filings.
  • Assist in document preparation, including drafting, proofreading, and organizing correspondence.
  • Provide support to attorneys and staff regarding foreign filings and U.S. prosecution queries.
  • Maintain knowledge of client-specific instructions and prepare relevant communications.
  • Ensure deadlines are met by coordinating closely with attorneys and clients.
  • Assist in auditing transfer matters and completing projects related to foreign filings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including working extra hours when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in intellectual property law, particularly in patent management.
  • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certification, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in a legal or professional services environment is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of international patent regulations and U.S. practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fostering positive relationships.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and various electronic filing systems.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in all interactions.
