Position Overview

SUMMARY OF ROLE

Support the Vice President of Preconstruction Services, Group Manager, Sales Engineer, and Senior Estimator in evaluating the financial aspects of prospective construction projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Construction Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Preconstruction Services and the estimating team to review project plans and make informed bidding decisions.
  • Assist in forecasting labor, equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for the construction projects assigned.
  • Adhere to the established construction strategy and schedule to guide the bidding process and assist in scheduling as needed.
  • Gather and review bid documents to prepare for submission.
  • Conduct site visits to assess conditions and verify plans against actual site constraints.
  • Identify required subcontractors and suppliers, securing pricing information and ensuring they have necessary project details.
  • Perform quantity take-offs for major materials and related systems.
  • Review bid documents for accuracy and communicate discrepancies to the design team for clarification.
  • Calculate construction pricing to ensure profitability and assist in developing bidding strategies.
  • Establish project timelines and assess overhead costs associated with the project.
  • Evaluate seasonal weather impacts on construction timelines.
  • Complete and submit bid documents for review before the bid deadline.
  • Manage risk assessments for projects and communicate any concerns to the project team.
  • Draft the bid proposal language for contractual negotiations.
  • Review and compare bid documents with construction documents to price necessary changes.

Construction Responsibilities

  • Understand ASTM standards and contract change-order provisions.
  • Evaluate drawing revisions and assess risks associated with change orders.
  • Update bid documents to reflect any changes.
  • Estimate pricing for change orders and perform quantity take-offs as needed.
  • Track requests for information (RFI) during the bidding or construction phases.
  • Assist in creating and updating project schedules that reflect logical sequences and durations.
  • Report any potential delays or impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with submittal procedures and shop drawing requirements.
  • Identify long lead items and assemble documentation to support pricing accuracy.
  • Assist the project team with additional pricing, change orders, and bids as required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain organized and accurate documentation for bids and changes post-construction.
  • Manage and report on estimating workload and progress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to project pricing.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed safely, maintaining a safe work environment for all involved.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a 2-year degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficient in computer applications and estimating software, including Excel and AutoCAD.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work under deadlines.
  • Strong planning skills.
  • Capability to visualize projects effectively.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret scopes of work, plans, and specifications.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based work with limited site visits.
  • Participation in meetings as required.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid Driver's License preferred.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification required; training provided.

Physical Demands

  • Primarily sedentary work involving reading and typing.
