Position Overview

SUMMARY OF ROLE

Support the Vice President of Preconstruction Services, Group Manager, Sales Engineer, and Senior Estimator in evaluating the financial aspects of prospective construction projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Construction Duties

  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Preconstruction Services, Business Group Manager, Senior Estimator, or Sales Engineer to review project plans and prepare bids.
  • Assist in forecasting labor, equipment, materials, and supplies required for assigned construction bids.
  • Adhere to the construction strategy and schedule established by the Estimating Team to guide the bidding process.
  • Gather and review bid documents to prepare for submission.
  • Conduct site visits to assess conditions and verify plans against actual site constraints.
  • Identify necessary subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, securing relevant pricing information.
  • Perform quantity take-offs for significant materials and systems involved in the project.
  • Review bid documents for accuracy and address discrepancies with the design team.
  • Prepare construction pricing for profit margins and assist in developing bidding strategies.
  • Evaluate project timelines and assess overhead costs associated with the project.
  • Consider seasonal weather impacts on construction timelines.
  • Complete and submit bid documents for review before deadlines.
  • Manage risk assessments for projects and communicate concerns to the project team.
  • Oversee bid proposal language regarding terms and conditions for contractual negotiations.
  • Review and compare bid documents with construction documents to price necessary changes.

Construction Responsibilities

  • Understand ASTM standards and contract change-order provisions.
  • Review changes in drawings, bulletins, and field sketches, assessing risks for change orders.
  • Update bid documents to reflect changes and maintain accurate logs.
  • Estimate pricing for change orders, considering scope, costs, and potential delays.
  • Track all requests for information (RFI) related to the project during bidding or construction phases.
  • Assist in creating and revising critical path schedules for project activities.
  • Report potential delays or impacts to the Project Manager due to various factors.
  • Ensure compliance with submittal procedures and shop drawing requirements in contract documents.
  • Identify long lead items and assemble documentation to support pricing accuracy.
  • Assist the project team with additional pricing, change orders, and bids as needed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Maintain organized and accurate paperwork and electronic files for bids and changes.
  • Manage and report on estimating workload and progress.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the project team.
  • Conduct all tasks in a safe manner, ensuring a safe work environment for all involved.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a 2-year degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficient in computer applications and estimating software, including Excel and AutoCAD.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work under deadlines.
  • Strong planning skills.
  • Capability to visualize project execution.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret Scopes of Work, Plans, and Specifications.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based work.
  • Limited travel for site visits.
  • Participation in various meetings related to project bidding and scope.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid Driver's License preferred.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Certification required; training provided.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and reading.
  • Frequent typing and data entry.
