Job Title: Assistant General Counsel

We are seeking a highly motivated lawyer to join our Legal Department as a part-time employee, working 20-30 hours per week. The Assistant General Counsel will report to the General Counsel and be responsible for drafting routine contract documents and assisting Downtown Alliance departments in preparing requests for proposals and memos for matters needing board approval.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft and execute routine contract documents and other agreements pertaining to the work and interests of the Downtown Alliance
  • Work closely with all departments to discuss and support Downtown Alliance programming
  • Collect and review certificates of insurance from vendors for compliance with Downtown Alliance requirements
  • Review licenses and other documents prepared by third parties
  • Prepare requests for proposals for various procurements
  • Assist in managing litigation by insurance company counsel
  • Oversee and manage the disposal of certain summonses, such as idling summonses, when received
  • Assist in creating minutes, memos, and other documents needed for or related to board or committee meetings
  • Attend Downtown Alliance annual meeting and various other meetings
  • Assist the General Counsel in preparing memoranda and letters, legal research, and various tasks as may be assigned relating to BID activities
Requirements:
  • J.D. degree and at least five years of legal experience, preferably at a large non-profit, government agency, or law firm
  • Membership in good standing in the New York bar, or eligibility to practice law in New York
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent people skills and willingness to be a team player
  • Hybrid position requiring an onsite minimum of two days per week, including summer months
  • Job references are required
Benefits:

Employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week will be eligible for a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, commuter benefit, Citibike membership, and paid leave and retirement benefits. Employees working 29 hours or less will not be eligible for our benefits package.

Salary for the position will be calculated based on the number of hours the employee will work per week, with a pay range from $58/hr to $70/hr.
