Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to join our legal team. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with Fairstead staff and outside counsel on transactions primarily involving multifamily properties. Your expertise in complex commercial real estate transactions, specifically representing developers and investors in multifamily housing, will be essential in driving our mission forward.

Responsibilities
  • Transaction Management: Independently oversee and manage complex multifamily real estate transactions, with a focus on affordable housing.
  • Contract Negotiation: Draft and negotiate purchase agreements, loan agreements, and other contracts to support multifamily and affordable housing projects.
  • Legal Guidance: Provide legal advice to internal stakeholders on multifamily and affordable housing transactions and operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal and state affordable housing programs and regulations, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and Section 8 investments.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • 4+ years of real estate transactional experience.
  • Proven ability to independently oversee and close complex multifamily real estate deals, particularly those with an affordable housing component.
  • Experience with multifamily and LIHTC properties and Section 8 subsidy programs preferred.
  • Experience with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae financing programs is highly desirable.
