Position Overview

PeaceHealth is in search of a Nutrition Specialist I - Kitchen for a Per Diem/Relief, FTE, Day role.

The compensation range for this position is $28.81 – $43.21, with the starting salary influenced by various factors such as education, experience, and applicable agreements.

Role Summary

This role entails overseeing all facets of nutritional care, collaborating with other healthcare professionals as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proficient application of the Nutrition Care Process, which includes nutrition evaluation, identification of nutritional issues, execution of suitable nutrition interventions, and development of individualized patient goals, along with monitoring, assessment, and follow-up of results.
  • Utilizing evidence-based nutrition guidelines, provide nutritional education to patients and their families in both outpatient and inpatient environments.
  • Offer consultative services to other healthcare providers and engage in interdisciplinary team activities.
  • Maintain documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in compliance with established policies and regulations.
  • When necessary, refer patients to additional services, agencies, and community resources.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field is mandatory. Caregivers who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) license prior to the new educational requirements will be exempt.

Experience

  • Completion of an accredited internship or training program is essential.

Credentials

  • Registered Dietitian certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • Certification as a Dietitian in Washington may be necessary for outpatient roles.
  • Licensure as a Dietitian in Oregon may be required for outpatient and ambulatory roles.
  • Registered Dietitian certification is required for all positions in Alaska.
  • Current Medicare provider status may be required.

Skills

  • Proven ability to educate adults and children of varying competency levels.
  • Capability to design, implement, and assess educational materials.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with various departments and manage multiple projects independently.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office.
  • Knowledge of age-specific growth and development principles to cater to each patient's needs.

Department Specific Notes

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required at the time of hire. Additional training may be necessary based on departmental needs.

  • Engage in program activities, including informational sessions and support groups.
  • Certification in Obesity and Weight Management is required within the first year of employment.

Working Conditions

Lifting Requirements

  • Frequent movement within the work area.
  • Regular grasping and reaching activities.
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 10 lbs.
  • Some squatting, kneeling, and bending may be required.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is conducted in a medical or office environment.

Mental/Visual Requirements

  • Normal vision and hearing capabilities are necessary.
  • Effective communication and information exchange are essential.
