About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Growth Facilities Manager to join our team at Harvard University. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our greenhouses and growth facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research Support: Collaborate with researchers to understand their experimental goals and provide guidance on plant growth and maintenance protocols.
  • Teaching Support: Provide plant material and support to teaching faculty to achieve their course goals.
  • Communication: Interact with faculty and staff to determine project needs and communicate policies, plant growth/health, and facility status.
  • Pest and Disease Control: Assess and diagnose pest control issues and conduct applications of chemical pesticides as needed.
  • Facilities Maintenance: Work with FAS Physical Resources to maintain, repair, and improve mechanical, environmental, and computer systems of greenhouses and growth chambers.
  • Emergency Response: Act as the primary call-back person on the 24/7 alarm system and respond to emergencies such as equipment failure and power outages.
  • Policies and Procedures: Develop, implement, and train staff and users on proper protocols, safety procedures, and growth facility policies.
  • Budget and Finance: Prepare, track, and maintain budget to ensure fiscal responsibility and meet departmental goals.
  • Inventory Management: Order and maintain all supplies and equipment to operate growth facilities within budgetary allowances.
  • Space Allocation: Manage space allocation to each research group and maintain space allocation records.
  • Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Maintain safety protocols and emergency preparedness procedures, including spill procedures and chemical inventory management.
Requirements
  • Experience in plant growth facilities management or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of plant growth and maintenance protocols.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
