Position Summary

This role is with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The Application Configuration Analyst A collaborates with a team of analysts and engineers at the Transmission Control Center, focusing on the Energy Management System (EMS) and related applications.

The EMS is a vital, real-time application that oversees and regulates power distribution across the FirstEnergy transmission network and its interconnections.

This position allows for remote work, with occasional on-site presence required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze business operations to deliver scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Oversee third-party vendor software within FirstEnergy's standard infrastructure.
  • Manage testing and deployment of software patches and upgrades.
  • Support real-time SCADA software and database configurations.
  • Maintain integrations between FirstEnergy's real-time systems.
  • Execute system security administration tasks.
  • Assist with GE's Historian and Source products, as well as Oracle databases.
  • Facilitate data extraction and transformation using GE tools and Perl scripts.
  • Develop data queries and reporting solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Enhance visualization projects for FirstEnergy's transmission control rooms.
  • Support GE's Control product on the EMS Front End Processors (FEP) and related communication hardware.
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of processes within FirstEnergy's Transmission Operations, staying updated on industry developments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Programming skills, including SQL and Perl scripting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to interpret complex technical information.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and provide after-hours support as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of utility operations (transmission, distribution, generation).
  • Experience with client/server environments.
  • Familiarity with real-time system databases.
  • Understanding of data communications and networking.
  • Strong analytical skills for effective problem resolution.
