Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Sports Turf Operations to join our team at Stanford University's Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER). As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation and management of our athletic playing fields, ensuring they are maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee a team of nine union workers and manage day-to-day turf management activities
  • Research and report on the latest innovations in field maintenance and irrigation
  • Develop strategic plans for equipment, staffing, and water efficiency
  • Manage and/or develop budget for area of responsibility, including staffing, maintenance, contracts, etc.
  • Participate in department/unit strategic management and provide input into long-range financial, budgeting, and programmatic planning and development
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of education training, and experience
  • Two or more years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types
  • Six or more years of sports turf management experience is preferred
  • Great communications and positive relationships with outside groups, students, faculty, staff
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work on deadline and handle several responsibilities simultaneously
  • Strong knowledge of current field trends and technologies
  • Significant independent judgment and self-motivation
