Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the role of Director of Sports Turf. In this capacity, you will report directly to the Assistant Athletics Director and will be responsible for overseeing a dedicated team of nine professionals. Your primary focus will be the effective management of turf maintenance across all athletic fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise a team of nine union workers.
  2. Research and implement the latest advancements in field maintenance and irrigation techniques.
  3. Formulate strategic plans for equipment utilization, staffing, and water conservation.
  4. Oversee project activities, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals while coordinating with staff, subcontractors, and vendors.
  5. Address and resolve issues that span multiple technical areas, developing programs within assigned facilities.
  6. Manage daily operations and oversight of assigned facilities, including staff scheduling and performance evaluations.
  7. Develop and manage budgets for your area of responsibility, covering staffing, maintenance, and contracts.
  8. Administer ongoing service contracts as required.
  9. Contribute to departmental strategic management, offering insights for short-term and long-term facility projects.
  10. Provide input into financial planning, budgeting, and policy development for your area.
  11. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or a combination of education and experience.
  2. A minimum of six years of experience in sports turf management is preferred.
  3. Strong communication skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with diverse groups.
  4. Exceptional organizational skills and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  5. The ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines effectively.
  6. A solid understanding of current trends and technologies in turf management.
  7. Strong independent judgment and self-motivation.
