About the Role:

Insomnia Cookies is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Global Financial Manager to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will play a critical role in supporting the growth and success of our company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all international financial accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, tax, and other related tasks for 5+ stores across the UK and Canada.
  • Perform various day-to-day accounting functions, including booking journal entries, and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial statements.
  • Work closely with the US and international market teams to ensure alignment on operational activities, sales, and business expenses.
  • Review capital expenditure invoice postings to confirm proper accounting treatment and reclassify items that have been misclassified to the correct accounts.
  • Aid in the training of US staff by providing guidance on UK and Canada accounting processes and work together to enable automation and streamline processes, where appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Tax manager to provide all necessary details around taxes and ensure compliance with all VAT/GST/HST submissions.
  • Work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date and detailed documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Post-graduate professional degree (i.e. MBA, etc.) preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • 6 years of accounting experience in a high-growth company, including 2+ years of accounting experience at an international company, multi-unit retail, F&B, restaurant, GPG, or hospitality company.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems, and processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to decipher large amounts of data to deliver actionable insight.
  • Functional expertise in accounting systems (including Sage/Mas90, Hyperion, SAP, Oracle, etc.) and financial modeling experience using advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables, financial, and statistical functions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong presentation skills.
  • Cost Accounting and Budget Management - Understand the relationship between different costs and cost drivers and how to classify certain costs within the P&L. Ability to influence cross-functional teams to initiate cost reduction programs.
  • Drive for results - Must be proactive, high-energy, results-oriented, and willing to drive change. Ability to meet deadlines under time constraints. Strong listening skills and attention to detail.
  • Perseverance - Must work well under pressure and understand the importance of meeting deadlines. Resilience to change, working under pressure, and lean organizational structure. Occasionally required flexibility to work outside of normal business hours (i.e. Period close).
  • Priority & Process Management - Well-developed Planning & Organization skills to manage multiple projects and priorities. Must have a high degree of self-direction with the ability to constantly seek innovative ways to perform tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and in-depth understanding of business/financial interrelationships between marketing/sales strategies, pricing, volumes, and cost structure. Understanding of basic internal financial measures such as EBITDA and Cash flow.
  • Solid understanding of Tax and Treasury operations to ensure necessary diligence.
