Reports to: Executive Director of Planning

Department: Facilities, Planning & Construction

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: A40

Duty Days: 235

Primary Purpose:

The primary objective of this role is to coordinate and support the planning and construction teams in overseeing bond initiatives, which encompass both new construction and the renovation of existing facilities. This position is crucial in leading efforts to develop innovative, functional, and student-focused educational environments that cater to the dynamic needs of our expanding school district. Responsibilities include managing space allocation and monitoring the utilization of buildings across all campuses.

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

  1. Maintain the District Technical Guidelines and Educational Specifications.
  2. Serve as a liaison between the department and external vendors, including architects, general contractors, and consultants.
  3. Oversee the creation and renovation of learning environments, assisting campus administration in adapting spaces to meet programmatic growth.
  4. Coordinate the selection, procurement, and installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment for various educational spaces, emphasizing ergonomic design and adaptability.
  5. Manage the district's GIS database.
  6. Facilitate moves and storage solutions for campuses.
  7. Stay updated on relevant regulations, guidelines, and industry standards to ensure compliance with best practices in architectural design and facility management.
  8. Engage in professional development opportunities to remain informed about trends in educational facility design.
  9. Develop and oversee budgets for architectural planning and construction projects, ensuring alignment with district priorities.
  10. Review and direct executed contracts, bids, and invoices submitted to the department.
  11. Plan and manage small-scale growth projects.
  12. Prepare and review floor plans, including markups and room numbering.
  13. Coordinate site visits with vendors.
  14. Assist in managing documentation for permits and inspections.
  15. Maintain confidentiality and perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties:

Oversee the Department Planning Specialist and Furniture Vendors.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer, printer, copier, scanner, phone.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress while managing frequent interruptions. Flexibility is essential during evolving projects, which may require district-wide travel and occasional irregular hours. Physical demands include frequent sitting, bending, stooping, and overhead reaching.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture, interior design, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in architectural planning, facility design, or construction management, with at least 3 years in educational facility design preferred. Strong project management skills, excellent communication abilities, and knowledge of Texas building codes and educational facility guidelines are essential.
