The Senior Director of Financial Strategy plays a pivotal role in guiding the strategic vision of the organization by reporting directly to the Vice President of Financial Planning. This position is integral to the senior leadership team within the Financial Planning division, sharing the responsibility for the development, enhancement, and maintenance of essential Financial Planning capabilities across the organization.

This individual is recognized as a visionary leader, adept at fostering collaborative relationships with key business partners across various departments, including Training, Operations, Compliance, Marketing, and Legal. As a change agent, this role is tasked with challenging conventional practices, delivering innovative solutions, and ensuring widespread adoption of new processes while continuing to support existing operations.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor's Degree is mandatory, preferably in Finance or a related business discipline.

Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years in the financial services sector, emphasizing personal financial planning and direct sales of insurance and investment products.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience within the financial services arena.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Possession of advanced credentials such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) is essential.
  • Additional industry certifications are advantageous.
  • Must obtain FINRA series 7, 24, 66, or equivalent within six months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of financial planning principles and expertise in key areas such as Retirement Income Planning, Tax Planning, Investment Strategies, Risk Management, and Estate Planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the financial planning industry and personal financial planning practices.
  • Awareness of the investment sector and the operations of Broker/Dealers and Registered Representatives.
  • Understanding of the Registered Investment Advisor framework and associated representatives.
  • Familiarity with the life insurance sector and the workings of insurance agencies.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make informed decisions with limited data.
  • Proficient in conflict resolution and capable of managing multiple projects effectively while providing timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, suitable for all organizational levels.

Statement of Responsibility:

The Senior Director of Financial Strategy is a vital member of the senior leadership team in the Financial Planning Department, tasked with the development and enhancement of core Financial Planning capabilities across the organization. Each Director has specific responsibilities defined in this Statement of Responsibility.

This role encompasses all aspects of Advanced Planning for the organization. Additionally, it includes leading the development and execution of a High Net Worth (HNW) Client Offering, which may evolve from the current Advanced Planning services. Core responsibilities include:

Design and Implementation of Financial Planning Engagement Process:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create and launch a comprehensive HNW service offering.
  • Identify pertinent planning topics for the target market and establish a scalable engagement process.
  • Work with Integrated Sales to develop a process for communicating opportunities identified during the planning process to facilitate follow-up and capitalize on sales opportunities.
  • Lead the Retirement Planning Advocates.

Representation of Financial Planning / Advanced Planning:

  • Stay informed on industry research and trends relevant to the HNW client segment.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for complex financial planning concepts and strategies.
  • Advocate for the technological capabilities necessary to identify, track, and effectively serve this client segment.
  • Support the creation of educational content for Advisors to better serve this client demographic.

Leadership of Advanced Planning Consultants Team:

  • Enhance the team's expertise in the financial planning process, plan development, and case design, particularly for clients nearing or in retirement.
  • Broaden the team's focus on tax efficiency in retirement income planning to provide a comprehensive analysis of clients' financial situations, assessing risks and opportunities, and presenting strategic options to improve client outcomes.
