Job Overview

Reports to: IT and Communications Manager

Position Summary:
The Communications Supervisor serves as the primary supervisor for the Communication Technicians, overseeing the daily inspection, testing, and maintenance of the commuter railroad network and communication systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs and assigns daily tasks to Communication Technicians, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and company policies.
  • Provides mentorship and sets clear expectations through coaching, training, and development of staff to boost productivity and achieve departmental objectives.
  • Conducts efficiency assessments in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Keeps accurate and timely records of inspections, repairs, and calibration tests using the Asset Works Linear Focus module.
  • Ensures that all staff receive necessary training to perform their duties safely and effectively.
  • Manages time and attendance for work crews, offering guidance and feedback on employee performance, and contributing to employment and disciplinary decisions.
  • Oversees the administration of tests and safety inspections for train control communication equipment in compliance with FRA regulations.
  • Analyzes maintenance reports to identify trends in repairs and equipment failures, making adjustments to meet departmental needs.
  • Generates and submits reports as required by the department manager.
  • Supervises the alignment, adjustment, and calibration of instruments by testing equipment according to specifications.
  • Ensures the availability of necessary supplies and tools for technicians to complete assigned tasks.
  • Develops and evaluates departmental budget requirements and requests.
  • Coordinates with contractors for the maintenance of the OCC system.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required; an Associate's degree in electronic/computer technology or a related field is preferred, with relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in electronic diagnosis and repair is preferred.
  • Experience in railroad train control inspection, maintenance, and repair is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work nights, holidays, and weekends, including overtime as necessary.
  • Capability to instruct and cross-train staff on inspections, maintenance, testing, and repair tasks.
  • Must be able to work at heights exceeding 6 feet and pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Possession of a valid state driver's license is required.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug and alcohol screening, and comply with the DTO Drug and Alcohol Policy.
