HVAC Superintendent for Corrections Construction

Position Overview:

This role is integral to the Department of Corrections' Construction Unit, focusing on the efficient and effective delivery of services that support field operations. The HVAC Superintendent will oversee commercial construction sites statewide, collaborating with assigned construction personnel to ensure the successful execution of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Exercise sound ethical judgment and effectively manage resources to resolve conflicts and deliver projects according to specifications, budget, and timeline.
2. Coordinate daily activities of a diverse workforce, including skilled and unskilled labor, and manage personnel decisions as necessary.
3. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards throughout all construction activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid State Issued Driver's License.
- Extensive experience in HVAC within commercial settings and proficiency in at least two other construction trades.
- Proven ability to supervise and instruct a minimally skilled workforce.
- Experience in managing construction schedules with minimal oversight.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, codes, and specifications.

Knowledge and Skills:

- Familiarity with multiple construction trades, methods, and materials used in commercial building projects.
- Knowledge of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC) and OSHA safety standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proficient in the use of various construction tools and equipment.
- Ability to maintain accurate records related to site personnel and activities.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders up to 40 feet.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel statewide as needed.

Additional Considerations:

- Current HVAC construction trades licensure and EPA 608 refrigerant certification are preferred.
- Experience operating construction earthmoving equipment and holding a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is advantageous.
