Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Construction Superintendent to join our team in the Corrections Construction Unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction and renovation of commercial and institutional building structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate construction projects from start to finish, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget and quality standards.
  • Supervise and train a team of skilled and unskilled laborers, including inmates, to ensure effective and efficient project execution.
  • Develop and implement construction plans, schedules, and budgets, and monitor progress to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, and safety standards, including OSHA and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to resolve issues and ensure project success.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation, including daily reports, field orders, and timekeeping records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in construction management or related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and commercial driver's license (CDL) with Class B endorsement required.
  • Knowledge of construction trades, methods, and materials, including Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC) and OSHA standards.
  • Experience in managing construction teams and projects, including experience working with inmates and in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to interpret and work with construction drawings, specifications, and other documents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience working in a corrections or institutional setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction earthmoving equipment and operations.
  • Ability to travel statewide and work in a variety of weather conditions.
