Job Overview

The Shelter Case Manager plays a crucial role in providing support and advocacy for individuals residing in the shelter. This position involves offering guidance, managing services, and ensuring that residents receive the necessary resources to navigate their circumstances effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocacy and Counseling: Deliver empowerment-focused advocacy and crisis intervention to shelter residents.
  • Service Planning: Conduct initial meetings with new residents within one business day and develop a comprehensive service plan within 72 hours of their arrival.
  • Safety Assessment: Implement safety planning and evaluate the risk factors affecting residents' situations.
  • Regular Follow-ups: Maintain consistent contact with residents through daily follow-up sessions to monitor progress.
  • Information Gathering: Collect relevant data, including medical and social information, to better understand each resident's needs.
  • Support with Applications: Assist residents in completing victim compensation applications and securing relocation assistance.
  • Case Management: Oversee all aspects of assigned cases, ensuring comprehensive service delivery.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of resident progress and service delivery, preparing monthly statistical reports.
  • Community Resource Referral: Connect residents with external resources and organizations tailored to their specific needs.
  • Case Conferences: Participate in weekly case conferences to discuss resident progress and strategize next steps.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Process legal documents as necessary.
  • Occasionally provide transportation for residents using agency vehicles.
  • Facilitate support groups on various relevant topics.
  • Answer crisis calls and manage the intake process for new residents.
  • Work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of residents.
Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field is preferred, along with at least one year of relevant experience. Candidates with extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Training: Must obtain Core Competency certification and complete annual training on domestic violence dynamics.
  • Licensing: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Background Checks: Candidates must pass a Level II background check and FBI screening.
Work Environment

This position typically operates in an office setting with moderate noise levels, with occasional outdoor exposure during transportation duties. The role requires effective verbal communication and the ability to document case files accurately.
