The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for the examination and testing of human specimens to gather vital information for diagnosing, treating, and monitoring patients. This role involves specimen processing, conducting tests, and reporting results under the guidance of a Medical Technologist.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist laboratory leadership with assigned projects.
  • Communicate critical results and delays to clients promptly.
  • Complete annual competencies as required by CLIA.
  • Maintain readiness for surveys consistently.
  • Perform and review proficiency testing samples and results as mandated by accreditation standards.
  • Adhere to quality control and calibration procedures, taking corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support the training and orientation of new and existing laboratory staff.
  • Engage with laboratory management regarding operational concerns, quality issues, and errors.
  • Monitor pending workloads and communicate effectively as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, either in person or virtually.
  • Assist with specimen processing, including order entry and registration.
  • Evaluate and validate new instruments or procedures as appropriate.
  • Assess the validity and quality of results based on technical expertise and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Address customer inquiries and issues in a timely manner.
